Nigerian singer and entrepreneur Mr Eazi has revealed that he deliberately avoids listening to music by Burna Boy in order to preserve his unique artistic identity.
Speaking during an appearance on the Afropolitan Podcast, the “Skin Tight” crooner explained that his decision is rooted in creative discipline rather than personal differences with the Grammy-winning artist.
According to Mr Eazi, Burna Boy’s music and vocal delivery are highly influential, especially because both singers share similar deep-toned voices.
“I don’t like listening to Burna Boy’s songs — I’ve said it before. If I listen to so much Burna, you’ll hear it in my music,” he said during the interview.
The singer noted that Burna Boy’s style could unconsciously affect his own recording process, making it difficult to maintain the originality that helped establish his career in the music industry.
Mr Eazi added that limiting his exposure to Burna Boy’s catalogue helps him stay true to the distinct sound that first connected him with fans across Africa and beyond.
Despite avoiding his music frequently, the artist emphasized that he remains a strong admirer of Burna Boy and respects his artistry.
