The Nigerian Army is seeking increased collaboration with the private sector to improve military infrastructure, enhance troops’ welfare and strengthen national security operations.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, made the appeal on Friday during a meeting with the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative, Ubon Udoh, and his delegation at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
Shaibu described private sector partnerships as critical to improving operational effectiveness, supporting personnel welfare and accelerating national development.
According to a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army chief commended ASR Africa and its founder, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for their continued support to the Armed Forces through various corporate interventions.
He said the evolving security challenges in the country require stronger cooperation between government agencies, the military and responsible private organisations.
The COAS highlighted the importance of investments in rural infrastructure, particularly road networks, noting that improved connectivity would enhance troop movement, support logistics operations, boost local economies and limit the ability of criminal groups to exploit isolated areas.
He also stressed the importance of caring for wounded soldiers and retired military personnel, describing quality healthcare and support systems as essential to maintaining troop morale and operational readiness.
Shaibu appreciated ASR Africa for its contributions to military healthcare and ongoing projects, including the construction of 120 accommodation units for junior soldiers at Giri, Abuja. He said the initiative would support the Nigerian Army’s expansion from eight to 12 divisions following approval by President Bola Tinubu.
The Army chief urged more private organisations to partner with the military by investing in projects that improve infrastructure, personnel welfare and national security.
