Manchester United Women have confirmed the departure of head coach Marc Skinner by mutual consent, despite the 42-year-old signing a new two-year contract with an optional extra year last summer.
Skinner leaves after United finished fourth in the Women’s Super League last season, a result that saw the club miss out on European qualification.
Appointed in 2021 to succeed Casey Stoney, Skinner guided the team to its first major trophy by winning the FA Cup in 2024 and oversaw one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
Confirming his exit, the club said: “Marc Skinner has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United Women by mutual agreement.
“Appointed in 2021, Marc led United to four domestic cup finals in four seasons, winning the club’s first major honour in women’s football with the 2024 FA Cup.
“During his tenure, United also finished runners-up in the 2022–23 Women’s Super League, securing qualification for the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
“Last season, the team reached its first League Cup final and the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
“Marc leaves having made a significant contribution to the continued progress of Manchester United Women.
“The club places on record its sincere thanks for his professionalism, commitment and dedication throughout his time at United, and wishes him every success in the future.”
