Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes says the club is confident Victor Boniface can rediscover his best performance level at the German side.
The Nigerian striker spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Werder Bremen after a proposed move to Serie A club AC Milan failed to materialise.
However, his loan spell was disrupted by knee issues, limiting him to just 11 appearances for the German outfit.
Boniface has since returned to Leverkusen after Werder Bremen opted against activating their purchase option.
Rolfes stated that the club will work towards restoring the forward to full fitness and peak condition.
“The knee looks pretty good today. But the weight is a bit of his weak spot. It’s our goal to get him back in top form.
“Then he has a chance to play for many teams,” Rolfes said in an interview with Sport Bild as reported by Rheinpfalz.
Boniface is expected to rejoin pre-season training with Leverkusen next week and still has two years remaining on his contract with the former Bundesliga champions.
