Big Brother Naija Season 5 winner Laycon has revealed that his mother’s survival was directly linked to his victory on the reality show.
Speaking on the Echo Room podcast, Laycon disclosed that his mother was seriously ill while he was still in the BBNaija house in 2020 and had reached a critical condition by the time he left the competition.
According to him, the prize money from the show played a crucial role in covering her medical expenses and ensuring she received timely treatment.
“I’m saying it categorically now… if I had come out second, my mom would be dead now,” he said, describing the period as one of the most difficult moments of his life.
Laycon explained that he only fully understood the severity of her condition after leaving the house, adding that the financial support from his win made a significant difference in her care.
Beyond his BBNaija experience, the singer also reflected on his transition into film and entertainment production. He said many opportunities in acting came to him due to his popularity on the show rather than formal acting experience.
Laycon noted that he was often approached for roles because producers believed his presence would attract audiences, rather than because of proven acting talent.
He also spoke about public perceptions of his career decisions, including his move into music, film, and further education, saying people often interpret such choices in different ways.
According to him, criticism and assumptions are part of public life, especially for reality TV stars who diversify into other fields after gaining fame.
