Arsenal moved a step closer to winning the Premier League title after Leandro Trossard’s late strike secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium.
Trossard fired home a low finish from Martin Odegaard’s pass in the 83rd minute to restore Arsenal’s five-point lead over Manchester City, who still have a game in hand.
The visitors survived a tense finale after West Ham substitute Callum Wilson thought he had rescued a stoppage-time equaliser, only for the goal to be ruled out following a lengthy VAR review for a foul on Arsenal’s goalkeeper, David Raya.
The win leaves Arsenal on 79 points from 36 matches and within touching distance of their first league title since 2004. Mikel Arteta’s side will clinch the trophy if they win their remaining games against Burnley and Crystal Palace.
Despite securing all three points, Arsenal were forced to withstand heavy pressure from West Ham for much of the contest as the hosts created several dangerous opportunities.
For West Ham, the defeat deepened relegation fears. The Hammers could fall four points behind safety with only two matches remaining if Tottenham Hotspur defeat Leeds United on Monday.
