Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has dismissed reports linking him to an alleged $75,000 romance scam, describing the claims as false and malicious.
The reports, which circulated online on Friday, alleged that the actor was being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in collaboration with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over a complaint reportedly filed by a 49-year-old American woman identified as Kimberly Ann.
According to the viral claims, the woman alleged she had been involved in an online relationship with someone posing as the actor since 2025.
Reacting on his Instagram Story, Ogbonna denied any involvement in the alleged scheme, insisting he has never participated in internet fraud, romance scams or any other criminal activity.
“This report is completely false, malicious, and without any factual basis. I don’t support or participate in any form of internet fraud, romance scams, or any other fraudulent activity,” he wrote.
The actor said his identity has repeatedly been used by fraudsters operating fake social media accounts to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
He stressed that he has never authorised anyone to act on his behalf online, request money from fans or engage in private conversations while impersonating him.
Ogbonna urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid interacting with fake accounts exploiting his name and image, warning that such impersonators continue to target unsuspecting victims.
