Popular Nigerian actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has opened up about why she no longer attends church services physically, pointing to persistent media attention as a major distraction.
In a video shared via her Snapchat account on Sunday, the Nollywood star was seen going about her morning routine—preparing breakfast and getting her children ready for church—while addressing questions about her absence from in-person services.
Akindele explained that attending church has become challenging because cameras and photographers often focus on her throughout the service, making it difficult to worship without interruptions. As a result, she said she now prefers to participate in services virtually.
She made it clear that her decision is not about abandoning worship but about finding a more conducive environment to practice her faith. According to her, joining services online allows her to stay spiritually connected without the distractions that come with public appearances.
The actress, who is a member of the Celestial Church of Christ, noted that both media personnel and fellow congregants contribute to the heightened attention whenever she attends church physically.
Her remarks offer insight into the pressures faced by public figures in everyday settings, where even personal moments of worship can become public spectacles.
