Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has charged Corps Members in the State on integrity and credibility in the conduct of 2027 general elections.
Governor Fubara gave the advice on Tuesday,during the closing ceremony of 2026 Batch A Stream II orientation course for Corps Members deployed to the State, held at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam, TaiLocal Government Area of the State.
Represented by the Director of Administration, office of the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Rachel Ayasuk-Dandy, Fubara urged the Corps Members to discharge their INEC ad-hoc duties with “good conscience and fearless moral uprightness” in order to live up to the expectations of Nigerians and the Scheme’s top management.
He encouraged them to integrate seamlessly with the people of their host community and share their values, vision, and aspirations in order to be relevant and outstanding.
The governor assured the corps members of their “welfare and security” and further advised them to be “beacon of hope to the people and good ambassadors of the NYSC Scheme.”
In his address, the NYSC State Coordinator in the State, Mr. Moses Oleghe commended the corps members for their “patriotic spirit, resilience, and enthusiasm” in actively participating in all camp activities and programmes, which made them fully achieve the intended objectives of the orientation course.
He enjoined them to see their service year as a “time to discover their true purpose in life, positively transform themselves and acquire relevant skills that will put food on their table rather than wait for elusive white-collar jobs.”
Mr. Oleghe appreciated the governor for his prompt response in procuring 1500 8-inch Mouka mattresses for corps members arising from the surge in the number deployed to the State and the commitment to build a new 1000 capacity hostel each for male and female Corps Members.
It was observed that 3596 corps members made up of 1297 males, and 2299 females successfully completed the 3-week orientation exercise.
