The world football governing body, Fifa, has rejected the suspension of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president, Hussein Mohammed; the acting general secretary, Dennis Gicheru; and the nominated FKF National Executive Committee member, Abdulahi Yusuf Ibrahim, saying it was unconstitutional.
In a letter addressed to the FKF’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and seen by Nation Sport, Fifa stated that the suspension of the three individuals was not carried out in accordance with the FKF constitution.
On April 24, 2026, FKF’s National Executive Committee voted to suspend Hussein, Dennis Gicheru, and Abdulahi Yusuf Ibrahim over fraud allegations over the procurement of insurance worth Sh42.8 million for 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Nine out of 14 FKF NEC members, led by Hussein’s deputy McDonald Mariga, voted to suspend the three over allegations of fraud. The delayed 2024 CHAN was held in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
