Tinubu administration moves to transform Nigeria’s highway network with long-lasting concrete roads in Kaduna, Oyo, Ogun and Osun….
The Federal Government has intensified its push to overhaul Nigeria’s transport infrastructure with the signing of fresh road contracts valued at more than ₦690 billion for major highway projects across the South-West and North-West regions.
The contracts were officially signed at the Federal Ministry of Works headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja, marking another major infrastructure move under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The projects, which cut across Kaduna State, Oyo State, Ogun State and Osun State, will all be executed using Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) technology, a road construction method the government says is designed to deliver stronger and more durable highways capable of lasting for decades.
Minister of Works David Umahi described the projects as critical national infrastructure that would improve connectivity, ease transportation challenges, and stimulate economic activities across the affected corridors.
According to Umahi, the Tinubu administration is prioritising the construction of long-lasting roads rather than temporary fixes that quickly deteriorate under heavy traffic and harsh weather conditions.
“Our target is to build roads that can serve Nigerians for generations. With rigid pavement technology, we are laying infrastructure that can remain durable for up to 100 years,” the minister said during the signing ceremony.
One of the most notable projects approved is the reconstruction of the 122-kilometre Mando–Birnin Gwari Road in Kaduna State. The contract, awarded to J. Patel and Sons Nigeria Limited, is valued at ₦178.1 billion.
Umahi noted that the road holds strategic importance and was part of President Tinubu’s promises during the 2023 election campaign, especially due to its significance to security, trade and movement within the North-West.
The Federal Government also approved the dualisation of the Ibadan–Ijebu Ode Road linking Oyo and Ogun states. The 114.5-kilometre project was awarded to JRB Construction Company Limited at a contract sum of ₦295.9 billion.
In Osun State, Truecrete Solutions Limited secured the ₦101.8 billion contract for the construction of the 70-kilometre Osogbo–Ikirun–Akoda Road, while Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited will handle the 73-kilometre Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan Road project valued at ₦114.8 billion.
The minister praised the selected contractors for what he described as their proven competence and delivery record, adding that the government is increasingly placing confidence in indigenous construction firms to handle large-scale infrastructure projects.
He urged the contractors to move to site immediately and ensure the projects progress according to schedule.
The latest contracts add to the growing list of road projects being rolled out nationwide as the federal government seeks to modernise Nigeria’s aging road network, improve interstate travel, and boost economic growth through infrastructure development.
