The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of approved outstanding 2025 allowances to beneficiaries of the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Programme studying in partner countries abroad.
This development is contained in a statement signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education today Wednesday.
The Statement noted that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had successfully transferred the approved funds to Nigerian embassies and missions for onward payment to eligible scholars.
According to the ministry, the funds released represent 50 per cent of the approved outstanding obligations for 2025 under the now terminated BEA Scholarship Programme.
The Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, said efforts were ongoing to ensure the release of the outstanding balance in due course.
“The funds have already reached the respective embassy accounts, and the affected embassies are expected to commence immediate payment to eligible scholars,” the minister said.
He advised beneficiaries to monitor their accounts, adding that payments were expected to begin reflecting soon.
Alausa described the development as part of the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare and academic success of Nigerian students studying overseas.
He also linked the intervention to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that the administration remained committed to supporting Nigerian students abroad.
The minister commended affected scholars for their patience, understanding and resilience despite delays in payment of allowances.
He assured that the government would continue to fulfil its obligations to Nigerian students under various scholarship schemes while sustaining policies aimed at improving access to quality education and promoting human capital development.
The statement was signed by Mrs. Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education.
