Users across multiple countries encounter login failures, blank feeds and error messages as Meta works to restore services….
Thousands of users worldwide experienced disruptions on Facebook and Instagram on Friday after the social media platforms suffered a widespread outage that left many unable to access their accounts.
Reports of the service interruption surged throughout the day, with users across North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East complaining of login failures, blank home feeds and recurring error notifications.
According to online outage monitoring platform Downdetector, more than 100,000 Facebook users reported problems accessing the platform at the height of the disruption. Instagram also recorded over 9,000 outage reports, while nearly 20,000 users flagged issues with Facebook Messenger.
Many affected users said they were unexpectedly logged out of their accounts, while others reported that content failed to load or displayed technical error messages.
As frustrations mounted, users turned to alternative social media platforms to confirm whether the problems were widespread or isolated to their accounts.
The outage quickly became a trending topic online as people shared screenshots and updates about the disruption.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, acknowledged the issue shortly after reports began circulating.
In a statement posted on X, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said the company was aware that some users were experiencing difficulties accessing its services.
“We’re aware people are currently having trouble accessing our services and we’re working on it,” Stone wrote.
The company did not immediately provide details on the cause of the outage or indicate when full service would be restored.
Friday’s disruption is the latest in a series of technical issues that have affected Meta’s platforms in recent years.
In March 2026, a major outage left millions of users unable to access Facebook and Instagram for several hours, triggering widespread complaints and renewed concerns about the reliability of some of the world’s most heavily used social networking services.
Meta’s platforms collectively serve billions of users globally and are widely relied upon for communication, business operations, advertising and content distribution.
As engineers work to resolve the latest disruption, users continue to monitor the company’s official channels for updates on when normal service will resume.
