Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy has reflected on the moment he first discovered singer Ayra Starr, saying it was clear from the start that she stood out from the crowd.
Speaking during an interview on the Creatorium podcast, Don Jazzy recounted how quickly he became convinced of her potential after coming across her early performances online.
According to him, the discovery process was almost instantaneous, as her talent and presence immediately caught his attention.
He explained that what stood out most at the time were multiple cover performances of popular songs, which showcased her vocal ability and distinct artistic style.
Don Jazzy said the young singer brought a freshness to the industry that felt new and different, describing her as an artist who introduced a unique creative identity at the point she emerged.
“At the time that she came into the game, you could tell that a new character had been unlocked that we had never seen before,” he said.
The Mavin Records boss added that her originality and delivery made it clear she was destined for something significant in the music industry.
Ayra Starr, who has since risen to international prominence under the Mavin imprint, continues to be one of Nigeria’s leading global Afrobeats exports.
