Nigerian music executive Don Jazzy has described the departure of singer Di’ja from Mavin Records as one of the most emotionally difficult moments of his career.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Crea8torium podcast, the Mavin boss recalled that the decision was deeply personal, noting that he struggled to remain composed during the process.
According to him, the moment was so emotional that Di’ja herself noticed his discomfort during the conversation.
Don Jazzy explained that he views every artist signed to his label as family, which made the experience particularly painful.
He revealed that since the incident, he has stepped back from directly handling artist exits, delegating such responsibilities within the label’s management structure.
The producer said the emotional weight of the moment affected everyone present, adding that both he and Di’ja were moved to tears during the discussion.
Di’ja joined Mavin Records on February 14, 2014, and during her time with the label released several singles and an EP between 2014 and 2017.
In 2023, the singer clarified that she did not formally exit the label, explaining that her career path simply evolved over time due to life circumstances.
Don Jazzy’s reflection highlights the close-knit relationships often formed within record labels and the emotional complexities behind industry decisions.
