The backlash began after Alaseyori, during a live prayer session, urged Nigerians to pray for President Bola Tinubu and security agencies, while maintaining that efforts were being made by the government to address security concerns.
Her remarks came amid widespread outrage over the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, a development that has renewed concerns about safety and security across the country.
Following criticism from some members of the public, the gospel artiste released a video on Wednesday in which she apologised to Nigerians for her comments.
Reacting to the apology, DeeOne expressed disappointment, arguing that the singer had allowed public criticism to influence her decision.
In a video shared online, the former reality show contestant said he believed Alaseyori spoke from a place of conviction during the prayer session and should not have retracted her position because of negative reactions.
According to him, the singer missed an opportunity to stand by what she believed was a spiritual message. He suggested that concerns about public perception and possible professional consequences may have contributed to her decision to apologise.
DeeOne further advised Alaseyori to seek spiritual guidance before making such decisions in the future, insisting that ministers of the gospel should prioritise their convictions over public opinion.
He also warned that yielding to pressure from critics could have spiritual implications, while maintaining that her initial call for prayers was not inappropriate.
The exchange has continued to generate reactions on social media, with users divided over whether Alaseyori’s apology was necessary or whether her original comments were misunderstood.
