Nigeria remains among the leading nations in Commonwealth Games history, sitting ninth on the all-time medal standings as the 2026 edition in Glasgow approaches its conclusion.
The country has accumulated 271 medals since its first appearance at the Games, comprising 82 gold, 84 silver and 105 bronze medals, making Nigeria one of only nine nations to surpass the 250-medal milestone.
Australia leads the historical rankings with 2,604 medals, including 1,003 gold, while England follows in second place with 2,322 medals. Canada completes the top three with 1,647 medals from previous editions.
New Zealand occupies fourth position with 706 medals, followed by India with 564. Scotland, South Africa and Wales make up the rest of the top eight, while Nigeria remains the highest-ranked West African country and the second African nation in the top 10, with Kenya placed 10th on 258 medals.
The standings highlight the long-term dominance of Australia and England, whose combined medal haul of 4,926 exceeds half of the total medals won by the top 10 nations.
However, several Commonwealth Games Associations are still searching for their first medal. Sixteen nations, including Sierra Leone, Togo, Rwanda, Tuvalu and others, have yet to secure a podium finish in the history of the competition.
With events continuing in Glasgow, some of the medal-less nations still have an opportunity to create history before the 23rd Commonwealth Games officially conclude on August 2.
