Content creator and streamer Carter Efe has opened up about his personal relationship with Afrobeats star Wizkid, expressing both admiration and disappointment during a recent interview with BBC Pidgin.
Efe said he holds Wizkid in high regard for his musical talent, creativity, and distinctive sound, stressing that his respect for the singer’s artistry has not changed.
However, he admitted that his perception of Wizkid’s personality is different from his admiration of his music, noting that he feels his support over the years was not acknowledged in return.
He explained that despite his strong admiration, the lack of reciprocation has influenced how he views their relationship.
In his words:
“My relationship with him? I love Wizkid. I won’t lie. I love Wizkid. I love his craft, man. But I have issues with his personality. I showed that guy love, he didn’t show me love. But I still love his music and style.”
The conversation traces back to Efe’s 2022 viral song Machala, a tribute inspired by his admiration for Wizkid. The track gained significant attention online and boosted his visibility in the entertainment space.
Despite the song’s success, Efe noted that Wizkid did not publicly acknowledge either the record or his gesture, which he said shaped his feelings about the situation.
He, however, maintained that the intention behind the project was not driven by financial gain or fame, but rather a genuine appreciation for an artist he deeply respects.
