Bose Ogulu, mother and manager of Nigerian music star Burna Boy, has spoken out in defense of her son following renewed criticism over his public conduct.
The backlash stems from a recent incident at a Lagos nightclub, where Burna Boy reportedly had a confrontation with DJ Tunez, a close associate of fellow artist Wizkid. The altercation quickly spilled onto social media, triggering heated exchanges between both camps and reigniting conversations about Burna Boy’s personality.
Many online users accused the Grammy-winning artist of being overly aggressive and arrogant, pointing to previous incidents as part of a pattern.
Addressing the issue during an interview on Channels Television with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Ogulu dismissed the criticism, arguing that confidence is often misinterpreted.
She said she has no issue with how her son is perceived, adding that labels such as “arrogant” do not concern her.
According to her, self-assurance and an understanding of one’s value should not be seen as negative traits. She maintained that if being aware of one’s worth is viewed as arrogance, then it is justified.
Ogulu also reflected on broader societal expectations, noting that factors such as race, nationality, and gender often pressure individuals to downplay their confidence.
She emphasized that she believes in asserting knowledge and capability, and expects others to recognize it—or challenge it if they disagree.
The comments have added another layer to the ongoing debate surrounding Burna Boy’s public image, with fans and critics continuing to weigh in across social media platforms.
