After several unsuccessful attempts over the years, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has declared that the 2027 general election will be his final shot at the Nigerian presidency.
He made the declaration on Wednesday during a television interview, where he reflected on his political journey, future plans, and the significance of the next election cycle.
According to him, “2027 will be my last attempt. The stakes are higher because I believe it will be my final chance”.
He said his repeated contests for the presidency have given him the experience needed for one last push, adding that he is determined to make it count.
Despite several unsuccessful presidential bids under different political platforms, Atiku, who has been active in Nigerian politics for decades, remains a central figure in opposition politics and national discourse.
He was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general election, where he lost to the ruling party’s candidate. Since then, he has continued to play an active role in shaping political debates in the country.
His latest remarks are expected to influence political conversations ahead of 2027, as supporters and critics respond to what he describes as his “final shot” at the presidency.
