The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has said former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s latest criticism of him is another failed attempt to rewrite history.
Atiku said no amount of bitterness could erase his constitutional opposition to what he described as the third-term agenda or the role he played in Obasanjo’s personal and political journey.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, the former vice president said he watched Obasanjo’s recent interview with “profound sadness, but not anger,” adding that it reflected “the disposition of a man who has allowed personal resentment to cloud historical truth.”
Atiku said the origin of Obasanjo’s hostility towards him was his opposition to the former president’s third-term ambition.
He maintained that he remained proud of the stand he took and said he had no regrets about opposing the bid.
