The Nigerian Army has taken another step in its ongoing restructuring with the appointment of commanders for four newly created divisions following the Federal Government’s approval to expand the Army’s force structure.
The appointments were approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, as part of efforts to strengthen the Army’s operational capacity in tackling security threats across the country.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army said the new divisions will begin operations once they attain Initial Operational Capability, with full deployment to be achieved in phases.
The expansion is accompanied by a reorganisation of the Army’s divisional areas of responsibility to improve command efficiency and operational coordination.
Lieutenant General Shaibu thanked President Bola Tinubu for supporting the expansion, describing it as a major step toward strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture.
He said the additional divisions will improve command and control, enhance border security, speed up troop deployment and increase the Army’s ability to respond to emerging security challenges.
The Army Chief also expressed confidence that the expanded force structure will strengthen joint military operations, improve coordination with other security agencies and support ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability across the country.
