Controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan Tate, have been arrested in the United States after British prosecutors announced fresh criminal charges against the pair and formally requested their extradition.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed it had filed additional charges against the brothers, who hold dual British and American citizenship, and is seeking their return to the United Kingdom to face prosecution.
The brothers were arrested on Saturday evening.
Responding to the development, their lawyer, Joseph McBride, maintained that both men were innocent and described the latest charges as politically motivated.
In a statement, McBride said. “The world knows Andrew and Tristan are innocent. Their enemies know it best of all. That is exactly why they have been attacked.”
He further described the new charges as a political hit, alleging they were intended to undermine a defamation lawsuit the brothers had filed in the United States.
McBride added. “We are confident that once a competent judge sees the facts, and once the Department of Justice confronts this egregious abuse of its own authority, Andrew and Tristan Tate will walk free. America does not do Britain’s political dirty work.”
The latest development follows the CPS’ confirmation in May 2025 that Andrew Tate, 39, and Tristan Tate, 37, would face a total of 21 criminal charges in the United Kingdom.
The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 2012 and 2016.
In 2024, Bedfordshire Police secured European arrest warrants seeking the brothers’ return from Romania, where they are based and have also been the subject of separate criminal investigations.
The brothers also suffered a legal setback in June after a court rejected their bid to compel the CPS to disclose the identities of their UK accusers. Prosecutors argued that the names of the alleged victims should remain confidential until formal legal proceedings commence.
The new charges and extradition request mark the latest chapter in the long-running legal battles facing the Tate brothers across multiple jurisdictions.
