Akin Olaiya’s Estranged Wife Alleges Domestic Abuse, Challenges Actor’s Divorce Narrative

The breakdown of the marriage between Nollywood actor Akin Olaiya and his wife, Nafisat, has taken a new turn after she publicly alleged that domestic violence and mistreatment led to their separation.

Nafisat made the claims in a video shared online on Wednesday while addressing reports surrounding the end of their marriage.

Her response followed a statement that surfaced earlier this week announcing the couple’s divorce. In the statement, Olaiya reportedly claimed that his wife left their matrimonial home without informing him and that attempts to reconcile with her were unsuccessful.

However, Nafisat disputed that account, stating that she made the decision to leave the marriage because of what she described as violence and emotional distress within the relationship.

According to her, the separation occurred months ago, adding that she had endured significant pain and felt unvalued during the marriage.

She maintained that it was inaccurate to suggest she simply left the relationship without reason, arguing that people should consider the circumstances that may lead a spouse to walk away from a marriage.

While discussing the situation, Nafisat said she would not disclose every detail of what transpired between them, despite the public attention the divorce has attracted.

She also referenced the age difference between herself and the actor, noting that she had expected greater maturity and understanding from her husband during the marriage.

The couple’s relationship previously attracted widespread discussion online following their wedding in July 2025. Videos from the ceremony generated reactions on social media, with some users commenting on Nafisat’s facial expressions during the event while Olaiya appeared visibly excited.

The marriage reportedly ended less than five months after the wedding.
