Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and endorsed the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in the state, Kingsley Chinda.
Fubara also announced his return to the political camp of his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, declaring his membership of the Rainbow Coalition, a political alliance linked to the minister.
The governor made the declaration on Wednesday during the groundbreaking and foundation-laying ceremony of the Rivien Medical Industry project in Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Addressing supporters at the event, Fubara urged his political allies and followers to join the coalition, describing the move as a return to his political roots.
“I am supporting President Tinubu for the Presidency and OK Chinda to be the next Governor of Rivers State. I am part of the Rainbow Coalition, and I’m back to my political family”, Fubara said.
The declaration marks a major political shift for Fubara, whose relationship with Wike had been strained by a prolonged power struggle that created deep divisions within the Rivers State political structure.
The disagreement between both camps led to months of political tension, including disputes over the state House of Assembly, governance issues and control of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, structure in Rivers.
However, both leaders later moved towards reconciliation following interventions by political stakeholders, with Fubara maintaining that the interest of Rivers State remained his priority.
The governor’s latest endorsement is expected to reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the APC seeking to consolidate its influence in the state.
