Éric Chelle has outlined the rationale behind introducing several new faces in recent Super Eagles fixtures, including the Unity Cup and the friendly against Poland.
The coach named eight Nigeria Premier Football League players in his Unity Cup squad, with the likes of Femi Azeez, Owen Oseni, Arthur Okonkwo, and Rafiu Durosinmi all making their debuts at the tournament.
Abdullahi Bewene also earned his first appearance in the match against Poland, while Genk defender Christian Akpan received a late call-up ahead of the upcoming friendly against Portugal.
Chelle said the inclusions are part of efforts to strengthen the squad and improve overall performance levels.
“We have analysed our game over the past year and have tried to bring in players who can help the team grow,” Chelle told the Super Eagles media.
“We need to improve because, for me and for everyone, it is often the smallest details that make the difference between being the best team and winning a trophy.”
