The Nigerian Government has urged citizens to join forces with security agencies, the media, and civil society groups in confronting terrorism and violent extremism across the country.
Speaking in Abuja, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said defeating terrorism requires a united national response that transcends ethnic, religious, and political differences.
He said the government’s #UniteAgainstTerror campaign was aimed at mobilising Nigerians to stand together against insecurity, stressing that terrorism threatens all citizens regardless of background. The minister also reassured Nigerians that the safe return of pupils and teachers abducted in recent attacks in Oyo and Borno states remains a top priority for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to him, security agencies have intensified intelligence gathering, surveillance, and rescue operations to secure the victims’ release and bring those responsible to justice. Idris highlighted recent gains in counter-terrorism operations, including the elimination of terrorists, dismantling of criminal camps, and disruption of kidnapping networks across several parts of the country.
He also pointed to ongoing terrorism prosecutions and recent convictions linked to major terror attacks, saying the government remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
The minister urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, support security agencies with credible information, and reject divisive narratives, expressing confidence that the country would ultimately overcome the threat of terrorism.
