Tributes have continued to flood social media following the death of Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, who passed away at the age of 40 after battling cancer for an extended period.
The actor’s death has sparked widespread reactions across Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with colleagues, fans, and public figures remembering him for his talent, charisma, and contributions to Nollywood.
Ekubo had largely stayed away from the public eye in recent months, fueling speculation among followers and industry observers.
His final social media activity dated back to December 2024, shortly after reports emerged that his relationship with U.S.-based model Fancy Acholonu had ended.
The pair announced their engagement in 2021 but later called off plans for their wedding within the same year.
Known for his performances across romantic comedies, thrillers, and drama films, Ekubo built a strong presence in both television and cinema, becoming one of Nollywood’s most recognisable actors.
Following confirmation of his death, several celebrities shared emotional tributes online.
Veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo described the news as difficult to process, praising the late actor for the life and legacy he left behind.
Human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore also paid tribute, describing Ekubo as a “rare talent” whose performances left a lasting impression on audiences.
Broadcaster Oseni Rufai also joined others in mourning the actor, writing briefly, “Rest well Alex.”
Industry figures say Ekubo’s passing marks a major loss for Nollywood and Nigeria’s entertainment sector, where he remained a familiar and influential face for more than two decades.
