Rivers United technical adviser Finidi George has applauded his players for their determination following the team’s hard-fought victory over Wikki Tourists.
The Pride of Rivers secured a dramatic 3-2 win against Wikki Tourists at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi on Sunday.
Wikki Tourists took the lead in the 21st minute through Jonathan Mairiga, but Rivers United responded in the 34th minute with an equaliser from Handsome Surveyor.
The hosts restored their advantage shortly after the restart when Imamu Bala found the net four minutes into the second half.
Rivers United continued to push forward and drew level again in the 59th minute after Chijioke Mbaoma calmly finished to make it 2-2.
Taofeek Otaniyi eventually netted the winning goal in the 83rd minute to hand Finidi George’s side maximum points.
Finidi admitted that the encounter was difficult.
“It was a difficult match because we have to come back on two occasions to finally win the game,” Finidi stated in a post-match interview.
“I must commend my boys for doing this in Bauchi in front of their home supporters, it’s a tough one.
“We will return home to win our home game and leave the rest to what ever happens in other centers.”
