The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a partial closure of sections of the Ikorodu–Sagamu Road beginning Monday to allow for the continuation and completion of ongoing reconstruction works.
The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Mr Olayiwola Komolafe, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday, explaining that the decision was aimed at accelerating the pace of the highway rehabilitation project.
According to him, the directive followed instructions from the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, who ordered the contractor, Messrs Arab Contractors, to resume work on critical segments of the road to ensure timely delivery.
The affected portions include the stretch from Ikorodu Roundabout to Sabo Junction in Lagos State, as well as the section from Cement to Coca-Cola axis inward Sagamu in Ogun State.
Komolafe stated that traffic movement between Ikorodu and Sagamu will be managed through a counterflow diversion within designated construction corridors to minimise disruption for commuters.
He added that the reconstruction exercise is expected to last approximately three months, during which rigid pavement works will be carried out and allowed to properly cure.
To manage traffic flow, personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority are expected to be deployed along the corridor throughout the duration of the project.
The controller appealed to motorists for patience and cooperation with traffic officials and security agencies deployed to the area.
He also expressed regret over any inconvenience the closure may cause, noting that the project is part of broader efforts to improve road infrastructure and ease long-term mobility between Lagos and Ogun States.
