Laticia Chinyamula, the skipper of Malawi’s U-20 women’s national team, remains optimistic about her side’s chances of upstaging Nigeria to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The “Young Scorchers” are set to welcome Moses Aduku’s Falconets to the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe today for the decisive second leg of the final qualifying round. To qualify for the tournament in Poland, Maggie Chombo’s squad must overcome a two-goal disadvantage following their 2-0 defeat in the opening leg.
Despite the formidable reputation of the Nigerian side, Chinyamula insists the deficit is surmountable. The highly anticipated fixture is scheduled for a 3:00 PM local kickoff (2:00 PM in Nigeria), as three other continental representatives also battle for World Cup berths this weekend.
“We know what this match means to the nation, and as players we are ready to give everything on the pitch. We believe in ourselves, and we will fight until the final whistle,” said Chinyamula.
