About 17 members of the House of Representatives elected under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have officially defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abass Tajudeen, on the floor of the chamber.
In a related development, Speaker Tajudeen also confirmed the defection of Leke Abejide from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking further shifts in party alignment within the legislature.
Among the lawmakers who moved to the NDC are Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande, and Munachim Umezuruike.
Others include Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene, and Abdulhakeem Ado.
The wave of defections comes just a day after former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso reportedly moved from the ADC to the NDC, where they both pledged continued efforts toward what they described as building a better Nigeria.
The latest realignments signal a significant shift in the political composition of the House of Representatives, with implications for party strength and legislative dynamics in the coming months.
