P-Square star Peter Okoye has opened up about the difficult childhood experience that shaped what he considers his greatest fear in life.
The singer, speaking during an appearance on the Nancy Isime Show on Monday, said he does not fear death but is deeply afraid of experiencing poverty again.
According to Peter, his family went through severe financial hardship while he was growing up, an experience he said he has never forgotten.
“I’m not afraid of death. The only thing I’m afraid of in this life is poverty. It is being broke,” he said.
The music star recalled living with his parents and siblings in a one-bedroom apartment during his childhood.
He said the family consisted of his parents and eight children — six boys and two girls — who all lived in the small apartment.
Peter explained that the limited space meant the family had to use a curtain to divide parts of the room.
He also recounted how the family eventually lost the home after the landlord sold the property.
According to him, the family had pleaded for additional time to vacate the property, but a bulldozer eventually arrived while they were still at home and demolished the building.
“The next thing, we were at home, then a bulldozer came and demolished it. We have tasted poverty before,” he said.
For Peter, the experience remains a powerful reminder of the hardship his family endured before his rise to fame and success alongside his twin brother, Paul Okoye, as the music duo P-Square.
His comments offer a glimpse into the personal experiences behind his strong views on financial success, highlighting how memories of hardship can continue to influence even those who have achieved considerable success.
