Speaking on a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, the rapper disclosed that he was diagnosed with a mental health condition in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown, a development that contributed to his prolonged absence from the music scene.
YCee said he was living in London at the time and spent several months receiving medical attention following the diagnosis. According to him, he was repeatedly admitted to hospital over a three-month period while trying to manage the condition.
The artist explained that visa restrictions eventually required him to return to Nigeria, where he continued treatment and therapy.
Reflecting on the experience, YCee described the years that followed as challenging, saying he had to rely on medication, undergo therapy sessions and endure multiple hospitalisations as part of his recovery process.
He noted that managing the condition was often unpredictable, with periods of progress followed by difficult setbacks.
The rapper said the journey tested him emotionally and mentally, as there were times when things appeared to improve before becoming overwhelming again.
Despite the challenges, YCee revealed that his condition is now stable following years of treatment and professional support.
His disclosure has added to ongoing conversations about mental health awareness, particularly within the entertainment industry, where public figures are increasingly speaking openly about their experiences and the importance of seeking help when needed.
