Morocco head coach Jorge Vilda has expressed his satisfaction after the Atlas Lionesses opened their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a convincing victory.
The host nation defeated Kenya’s Harambee Starlets 4-0 at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat on Sunday, with Ibtissam Jraidi scoring twice, while Sakina Ouzraoui and Meriem Atiq added the other goals.
Vilda praised his players for their display, describing the result as a positive start to the tournament.
“It’s a good start. When you start a tournament like this, it means you’ve had good preparation. I’m satisfied with what I saw from the team today,” Vilda was quoted by CAFonline.
The victory sent Morocco to the top of Group A on goal difference, ahead of Algeria, who defeated Senegal 2-0 in their opening match.
The Atlas Lionesses will next face Algeria on Thursday in their second group fixture.
