Nigerian rapper Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, popularly known as Vector, has shared how meeting his wife, Yinka Coker, in a nightclub challenged his assumptions about relationships and life partners.
Speaking on the latest episode of the MENtality Podcast, co-hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and Banky W, the rapper said people should avoid judging potential partners based solely on where they first met.
Vector recalled that despite meeting his wife in a club, she turned out to be someone who enjoys spending time at home, contrary to common stereotypes.
“I met my woman in the club. You will not believe she is super homely. Who would have thought? What was the first attraction? She was rapping Heavy D,” he said.
Reflecting on the experience, the rapper said it reinforced his belief that first impressions can be misleading and should not be the sole basis for assessing a person’s character or suitability as a life partner.
He also questioned the widely held notion that meaningful relationships cannot begin in nightlife settings.
According to Vector, while guidance from trusted people can be valuable, the final decision about choosing a spouse should rest with the individual.
“So, you can’t take advice when it comes to a life partner. The typical advice that I heard before then was that there were no good women in the club,” he said.
The rapper clarified that he was not discouraging people from seeking counsel but encouraged them to make independent decisions after considering advice.
“I am not saying you shouldn’t take any advice; you can have a few people who give you good counsel, then, on your own, you can decide what works for you,” he added.
Vector and Yinka Coker were married in a civil ceremony in 2022 and have since welcomed a daughter. The couple have largely kept their family life private, occasionally sharing insights into their relationship through interviews and public appearances.
