A viral audio clip allegedly linked to President Bola Tinubu has triggered a strong reaction from the Presidency, which is now threatening legal action against social media commentator Martins Otse.
The audio, shared online by the influencer known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), reportedly contained a voice resembling the president making remarks on insecurity in the South-East, borrowing from the World Bank, and the 2027 general election.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the clip as fake and misleading in a statement posted on his verified X account on Wednesday.
He said the circulation of the audio amounted to misinformation capable of deceiving the public and damaging the president’s reputation. Onanuga added that the social media influencer should face legal consequences, describing the act as an abuse of digital platforms.
The Presidency maintained that the audio was manipulated and falsely attributed to the president, warning against the spread of unverified content online.
