Tensions remain high in U.S.–Iran negotiations, with both sides continuing to send conflicting signals that suggest no clear breakthrough has been reached.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump said Iran would not receive any sanctions relief as part of the talks, despite Tehran’s demands.
“We’re not talking about any easing of sanctions or giving money”, Trump said.
In a separate interview with PBS News, Trump repeated his position that Iran must give up its highly enriched uranium.
“They’re going to give up their highly enriched uranium, not for sanctions relief. No, no, not at all”, he said.
He also reiterated earlier comments suggesting the material could be transferred to the United States for destruction, or destroyed inside Iran under joint supervision.
Iran, however, has rejected those demands and insists it will not surrender its estimated 440 kilograms of enriched uranium. More than a month earlier, Trump had claimed Iran agreed to a slow transfer of the material, a statement Tehran quickly denied.
The broader negotiations remain stalled over several issues, including US sanctions on Iran, restrictions affecting Iranian ports, and control of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.
