US President Donald Trump jokingly announced he was running for a fourth term, pulling out a red hat emblazoned with “TRUMP 2028” during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Friday (July 24).
“When I’m gone, you’re all going to be broke,” Trump quipped, playfully declaring his intention to run again in order to “save your ratings.”
He framed his remarks as a tongue-in-cheek appeal to journalists, saying, “We’re all doing good together,” and calling the statement “somewhat of a scoop.”
Trump returned to the annual event celebrating press freedom after a shooting disrupted the original gathering in April.
