Operation Hadin Kai says relentless ground and air assaults forced terrorists to abandon captives in Borno community……
The military campaign against insurgents in Nigeria’s North-East recorded another breakthrough after troops of Operation Hadin Kai rescued 47 people who had been held captive by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.
The victims, made up largely of women and children, regained their freedom during a coordinated operation conducted in Kangarwa, a community in Kukawa Local Government Area near the Lake Chad region.
Military authorities disclosed that the rescue followed sustained offensives targeting terrorist hideouts and strongholds across the area. According to the Theatre Command, the intense pressure mounted by troops on the ground, backed by air operations, disrupted ISWAP activities and forced the insurgents to flee their positions.
In the confusion that followed the assaults, the captives were able to escape from what officials described as prolonged confinement under the terrorists.
Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Musa, confirmed the development in a statement, describing the rescue as another humanitarian milestone in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the North-East.
He noted that the freed civilians have since been moved to a secure location where they are receiving medical attention and other forms of humanitarian assistance. Efforts are also underway, in collaboration with relevant agencies, to support their rehabilitation and eventual reintegration into society.
The military said the operation reflects its broader objective of not only dismantling terrorist networks but also securing the release of innocent civilians trapped by the conflict.
Operation Hadin Kai reiterated its commitment to maintaining pressure on insurgent groups operating in the Lake Chad axis and other parts of the North-East, vowing to intensify efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability across the region.
The latest rescue comes amid ongoing military operations designed to weaken the operational capacity of terrorist groups and reclaim communities affected by years of insurgency.
