President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries across the country, saying the process reflected strong internal democracy within the governing party.
Tinubu spoke on Saturday during an encounter with journalists after participating in the APC presidential primary in his ward in Ikoyi.
The president described the exercise as peaceful, organised and inclusive, saying party members were actively involved at the grassroots level.
“This is politics, grassroots politics, where every member of the party has a right to participate and be involved,” Tinubu said.
“My goal is to ensure that we have an internal democracy and it’s peaceful and well organised.”
Responding to questions on the conduct of APC governors during the primaries and congresses nationwide, Tinubu said he was satisfied with the process so far.
“Today, I am very satisfied that these governors have done well in their various states,” he said.
“From the ward congresses to local government congresses, to the delegate accreditation, validation, member’s register and certification of the electoral process, it has been all very well.”
The president also reacted to the show of support from party members at the venue, saying their enthusiasm placed greater responsibility on him.
Asked what he made of the support, Tinubu said: “I’m just excited.
“They challenge me more.”
