President says Abuja’s districts are finally experiencing real development as completed infrastructure projects replace years of neglect……
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for what he described as a visible transformation of Abuja, saying residents across the capital’s districts are now witnessing the benefits of government through completed infrastructure projects.
The President made the remarks on Wednesday during the inauguration of the fully completed Akinwumi Ajibola Street project, covering Important Local Streets (ILS) 16, 18 and 19 in Gaduwa District, Abuja.
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu said the newly completed road reflects his administration’s commitment to delivering practical projects that directly improve the lives of Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to him, the road project goes beyond asphalt and concrete, as it restores access and addresses years of hardship faced by residents who had built homes in the area but lacked a motorable road to reach them.
“For years, families in Gaduwa built homes here in good faith, yet they had no motorable road to reach those homes. When the rains came, the place became impassable. That is not how a capital city treats its citizens. Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, we came to work, and today that promise is visible on these streets,” the President said.
Tinubu noted that his administration places greater emphasis on delivering completed projects rather than making promises, stressing that the successful completion of the Gaduwa road demonstrates that commitment.
The President also praised Wike’s leadership, saying the FCT Administration has changed the approach to project execution by ensuring effective supervision, prompt funding and timely delivery of infrastructure.

He said the minister revived abandoned projects by returning contractors to construction sites, setting clear timelines and ensuring the necessary financial support was available to complete the work.
“You have changed the culture of delivery in the FCT. You ended the era of mobilisation without movement and abandoned inner roads. You are taking development from the city centre into the districts and satellite towns so that no resident is left behind. You have my confidence and my commendation,” Tinubu added.
He further stated that the completed road would improve transportation, shorten travel time, increase property values and provide safer access for residents through improved drainage systems and street lighting.
The President also appealed to residents to safeguard public infrastructure by preventing vandalism and ensuring drainage channels are not blocked with refuse.
“We will not stop here. Across the FCT, from the city centre to the area councils, our task is to finish what matters, connect what was separated and ensure that public funds translate into public value,” he said.
Speaking at the event, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike disclosed that the commissioning marked the 16th project unveiled under the administration’s ongoing 31-day project inauguration programme to commemorate President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.
According to Wike, Tinubu had directed him upon assuming office to ensure that development reached every district in the Federal Capital Territory, regardless of whether it was located in the city centre or in satellite communities.
“You instructed us that every district in the FCT must feel the impact of this administration. Today, I can confidently say that no district can claim it has been neglected. We have taken development to Jahi, Gwarimpa, Katampe, Guzape, Kwali and now Gaduwa,” the minister said.
Wike attributed the pace of infrastructure delivery to the strong collaboration between the Executive and the National Assembly, noting that prompt budget approvals and releases had made it easier to execute projects without unnecessary delays.
He also issued a warning to the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), cautioning against naming roads constructed by the Federal Government without obtaining the necessary approval.
“If the Federal Government constructs the roads, permission must be obtained before naming them. Do not wait for us to build roads before putting names on them or using them to generate revenue,” he warned.
Also speaking, Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as another milestone in the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
She said the road project reflects the administration’s focus on delivering infrastructure that enhances mobility, supports economic activities and improves the overall quality of life for residents.
Mahmoud thanked President Tinubu, the FCT Minister, members of the National Assembly, contractors, consultants, traditional rulers, security agencies and the people of Gaduwa for their roles in the successful completion of the project, while reaffirming the administration’s commitment to sustaining infrastructure development across the FCT.
