‘This was not easy’
US President Donald Trump signed the Iran Memorandum of Understanding at the Palace of Versailles on Wednesday (June 17), just prior to a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.
A video shared on Thursday (June 18) on social media by Macron shows Trump signing the document with the French president applauding at his side and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio standing behind him.
“This was not easy… I can tell you,” Trump said while signing the MoU.
The signing of the interim agreement to end hostilities occurred during the G7 summit in France.
The memorandum includes an immediate end to the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, the full resumption of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the lifting of a US blockade of Iranian ports, the waiving of US sanctions on Iran, the unfreezing of its assets, and a plan worth $300 billion for the economic rehabilitation of the Islamic Republic.
Iran also undertakes not to build nuclear weapons, reaffirming a vow it had made for decades.
