Veteran Nigerian singer SkyB has expressed disappointment over what he describes as a lack of support from artists he once helped nurture in the Port Harcourt music scene.
Speaking on a recent episode of the KAA Truth Podcast, the “Pray For Me” crooner said he played a role in supporting several emerging acts from Port Harcourt during the early stages of their careers, including Timaya and Mr 2Kay.
SkyB alleged that despite his contributions to the development of the local industry, he has since been neglected by some of the same artists as well as others who later rose to prominence.
He specifically mentioned Grammy-winning superstar Burna Boy, stating that while he did not directly assist him in his early career, he believes the artist could have supported him through collaboration or financial assistance as a way of giving back.
According to him, he once facilitated a performance opportunity for an artist through a government official, but claimed the offer was rejected due to personal disagreements about sharing the stage.
SkyB further argued that his situation might have been different if he belonged to another ethnic group, suggesting that industry support is often influenced by regional or cultural affiliations.
He expressed frustration that, despite his early investments and sacrifices in the Port Harcourt music scene, he has not received similar backing in return as his peers achieved greater success.
His comments add to ongoing conversations within the Nigerian music industry about mentorship, loyalty, and how early contributors to regional music scenes are recognised, or overlooked, once new stars emerge.
