Popular Nigerian content creator Shank has ignited conversations online after sharing details of a personal disagreement with his mother over his decision to get tattoos.
The revelation emerged in a viral video posted on his social media platforms, where he recounted tattooing his mother’s name, “Oluremi,” on his arm—an act he initially believed would carry emotional significance.
Instead, the moment reportedly led to tension. According to Shank, his mother reacted with distress, opposing the tattoo on religious grounds and cautioning him against marking his body.
He recalled her questioning the decision and urging him not to repeat it, referencing her beliefs about body modification.
Shank said he responded by challenging what he described as a contradiction, comparing tattoos to other forms of body alteration such as shaving hair. His response has since drawn mixed reactions from audiences.
Using the experience as a lesson, the content creator advised young people to prioritise independence before making decisions that may conflict with their parents’ values.
Amid the discussion, he also revealed a new tattoo on his back bearing the inscription “Lit Gang,” further fueling online reactions.
The development has triggered widespread debate on social media, with opinions split between support for personal expression and adherence to cultural and religious views on body markings.
