Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has dismissed viral claims that he angrily walked out of the traditional wedding ceremony of social media personalities Jarvis and Peller, describing the reports as misleading.
The speculation emerged after videos from the star-studded Lagos event circulated online, with some blogs alleging that Kuti left after one of the event’s masters of ceremony reportedly compared Afrobeats star Wizkid to his late father, Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
Responding to the claims in a viral video alongside Fuji singer Malaika, Kuti said there was no confrontation or dramatic exit.
According to him, he simply left the wedding because he had another commitment at the New Afrika Shrine, adding that online reports had misrepresented what happened.
“I left the wedding to go to the Shrine, and these bloggers twisted things, saying I was angry. Maybe I should have danced out of the ceremony when I had somewhere to go,” Kuti said.
The singer also questioned why his departure had been interpreted as a sign of anger, suggesting that leaving an event before it ends should not automatically be seen as evidence of a dispute.
The traditional wedding of Jarvis and Peller, held in Lagos over the weekend, attracted a host of celebrities, entertainers and social media influencers. The event generated significant attention online, with several clips from the ceremony quickly making the rounds on social media.
Kuti’s clarification comes amid growing online speculation over celebrity appearances at public events, as viral videos continue to fuel narratives that are often challenged by those involved.
