The Oyo State Government has extended by 24 hours the 48-hour curfew earlier imposed on 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park, as it continues efforts to address security concerns in the affected communities.
The extension was announced on Thursday in Ibadan through a memo issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Musibau Babatunde.
The curfew, which restricts movement from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., was initially imposed on Tuesday as a temporary security measure across the affected councils. With the latest extension, the restriction will now remain in force until Saturday.
The affected local government areas are Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba.
The government said the measure is part of ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping and other security challenges in communities around the Old Oyo National Park.
Meanwhile, the state government has appealed to school authorities and parents to resume academic activities in areas affected by earlier disruptions, assuring that security agencies have been deployed to protect lives and property.
Officials also noted that additional financial provisions have been made to support security operations and improve surveillance in vulnerable communities, as part of wider efforts to stabilise the situation and restore normal activities.
