Nigerian record producer and musician Sarz has revealed that excessive confidence and ego affected his ability to collaborate with others during the early stage of his career.
Speaking in an interview with The Fadar, the producer, whose real name is Osabuohien Osaretin, admitted that he once believed he was ahead of many people in the industry and struggled to see value in working with others.
According to the 37-year-old producer, he was determined to prove himself when he first entered the music scene and often viewed himself as superior to many of his colleagues.
“When I started making music, I was very hot-headed. I really wanted to impress everybody. I just thought I was the best thing to exist in music,” he said.
However, Sarz explained that his mindset changed over time as he gained more experience in the industry and realised that growth comes from continuous learning.
The ‘Back Outside’ crooner said he eventually understood that no individual has complete knowledge of music, adding that he is now willing to learn from anyone regardless of their level of experience.
“But now I understand that I don’t know it all. I’m always willing to learn from anyone, even someone that just started yesterday,” he added.
Sarz is widely regarded as one of the leading producers in the Nigerian music industry, having worked with several top artistes across Afrobeats and other genres. His comments have sparked conversations online about humility, growth, and collaboration in the entertainment industry.
