The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has announced a planned outage on the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 330kV transmission line, a development expected to cause temporary electricity disruptions in Bauchi, Gombe, Yola and surrounding communities.
In its statement issued on Friday, July 17, 2026, NISO said the outage will commence at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, and end at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
According to the system operator, the outage will enable the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to carry out the connection of the Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) on the 330kV transmission line.
NISO explained that, to ensure a safe working environment for the maintenance exercise, the Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 132kV transmission line will also be temporarily taken out of service during the period.
The operator noted that the installation of the OPGW is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure by improving the reliability, monitoring and communication capabilities of the national grid.
While expressing regret over the temporary disruption to electricity supply, NISO appealed for the understanding and cooperation of electricity market participants and consumers in the affected areas.
