The controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has deepened, with lawmakers demanding the appearance of its self-proclaimed Director-General, Adeyemi Adeniyi, over claims bordering on forgery, illegal operations and a ₦1.32 billion budget allocation.
The development followed the resumption of an investigative hearing by the House of Representatives committee probing how the council allegedly secured office space at the Phase III Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja and obtained funding in the 2026 Appropriation Act despite not being legally established as a government agency. The committee has directed the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to produce Adeniyi before it on Wednesday.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Bashir Abdullahi, who represented the IGP at the hearing, was instructed to ensure Adeniyi’s appearance by noon.
Committee Chairman Yusuf Gagdi said the appearance of the alleged PFIPC DG was necessary to clarify documents and allegations surrounding the investigation.
“This committee clearly needs the suspected DG to appear before this committee. People’s names are involved. People’s integrity is involved. Institutional names are involved”, Gagdi said.
The probe followed petitions from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, alleging that Adeniyi falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and PFIPC. The police informed lawmakers that Adeniyi had already been investigated and charged before the Federal High Court on an eight-count charge.
“The Nigerian Police Force investigated part of this case late last year and filed eight-count charges before a Federal High Court. The case is ongoing”, Abdullahi said.
He confirmed that the suspect had been arrested and arraigned but cautioned against revealing details that could affect the ongoing criminal investigation.
During the hearing, the police representative also disowned signatures on documents allegedly linked to the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, saying, “They are not the same.” Gagdi said the committee had identified about 29 documents suspected to have been forged, including alleged approvals and correspondence attributed to government institutions.
He added that representatives of some affected agencies had appeared before the committee and disowned documents linked to their offices, while the investigation continues.
